We are proud to help Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) raise nonprofit leaders’ voices through the State of the Nonprofit Sector Survey. This Survey – the biggest national sampling of our sector – collects data about US nonprofits’ health and challenges into an accessible, evidence-based illustration of our ability to help the communities we all serve. It’s a powerful platform for nonprofits large and small, urban and rural, across sub-sectors and geographies, and its findings are widely used and cited by nonprofit leaders and boards, funders, advocates, policy advisors, media, researchers, and many others.
NFF’s Survey reaches out to thousands of nonprofits about their programmatic, financial, and operational issues, and analyzes the dynamics underlying their responses. Gathering and sharing this critical data – aggregated by sub-sector, organization size, geography, and other factors – is a major pillar of their commitment to unlock the potential of mission-driven organizations by sharing accessible insights.
When NFF launched the Survey in 2009, economic crisis threatened the viability of many organizations. In 2015, despite the US economic recovery, nonprofit leaders continued to voice concerns about succession planning, workforce retention, and financial sustainability.
