When interacting with their boards nonprofit accounting professionals sometimes find themselves facing an incorrect conventional wisdom or outright myth about what constitutes a good nonprofit accounting practice and what does not. For example, a clean audit can lead some boards to believe they don’t need to be concerned about fraud or that a nonprofit with a surplus is healthy. Those two things are not necessarily true.
