This article is intended for active SHIELD users, providing essential tips to maximize the SHIELD online portal’s features for accessing important documents like “Miscellaneous Notices”.
Welcome to another helpful reminder for our SHIELD users! The SHIELD online portal allows you to access and download important documents, including “Miscellaneous Notices.” These notices help streamline your payroll and unemployment processes. In this article, we’ll break down what these notices are, how to locate them in the SHIELD portal, and the key differences between miscellaneous notices and employer mail. Let’s ensure you’re using this tool to its fullest potential!
What Are Miscellaneous Notices?
State agencies commonly misdirect certain notices to our unemployment partners that should go to a payroll department or provider. This occurs because payroll functions often operate alongside the unemployment system, and some states do not offer the option to assign addresses at a granular level. For instance, many states have a single address for “unemployment tax,” which might include not only unemployment benefits bills but also notices related to quarterly payroll filings. As a result, we need a quick and secure way to pass these notices along to you.
How to Find and Download Miscellaneous Notices
Previously, documents of this kind were forwarded via standard postal service. However, thanks to changes in unemployment administration, we now leverage the SHIELD portal to deliver these notices electronically. You’ll receive an email notification from SHIELD whenever a miscellaneous notice has been uploaded for your review.
You can either click the link in the notification or access SHIELD directly by typing the URL into your browser. After logging in, simply follow these steps:
- Log in to SHIELD: Go to SHIELD Login.
- Navigate the Dashboard: On the left side of the dashboard, click on “Benefit Charge Portal.”
- Access Miscellaneous Notices: Once inside the portal, click on “Misc. Notices.”
- Download or Print Notices: A list of all received miscellaneous notices will be available. Check the box next to the notice you need and choose to either download or print.
Miscellaneous Notices vs. Employer Mail
There’s an important distinction between miscellaneous notices and employer mail. Items related to unemployment tax or state offices are routed to your claims consultant for review. If action is required, your service team will handle it. If the notice is deemed a miscellaneous item that should be forwarded, it will be uploaded to the SHIELD portal, and you’ll be notified via email.
On the other hand, documents such as child support enforcement, wage garnishments, or wage audits sometimes get sent to your claims consultant by mistake. These items do not require review by the service team and are usually forwarded directly from the mailroom via secure, encrypted email. We refer to these as “employer mail” because they are unrelated to unemployment claims or taxes.
